SUMMARY:SUBER - Suvereto Wine Festival
DESCRIPTION:SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival: May 1-3 Suvereto\, a medieval village in the Val di Cornia\, hosts the 3rd edition of the festival.\nSUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival: Three days of widespread celebration among wineries\, producers and artisans. Suvereto winemakers bet on new types of wine and the identity of a territory to be discovered. \nThe third edition of SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival\, May 1-3\, 2026\, chronicles a metamorphosis. The revision of the disciplinary with the new Suvereto DOCG marks a key step in the construction of more identity wines. \nAt SUBER we taste\, walk\, listen and think\, together\, about the future of the territory\, as Daniele Petricci\, president of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium\, explains. “SUBER was born as a time and place where wine returns to be a common language for those who\, in the glass\, seek not only quality but also stories\, relationships and belonging. The Festival is the result of the vision and commitment of an entire community that has decided to look in the same direction\, recognizing itself as a single\, pulsating ecosystem. From stores to artisans\, from restaurateurs to young winemakers\, everyone is doing their part with a proactive and inclusive spirit. We certainly welcome visitors with a glass of our wines\, but also with a choral tale of our territory.” \nAn evolution that not only concerns production\, but also redefines the positioning of this area of the Upper Maremma that focuses on wine tourism and the value it can generate. It is on this terrain that the new generations – winemakers\, restaurateurs\, artisans and local administrators – are called to confront. Outlining a shared path capable of holding together identity\, sustainability and competitiveness in a global context. \nThe masterclass “Suvereto Docg\, a new history” is dedicated to this change. 12 guided and comparative tastings to understand how the new production rules are already drawing the profile of tomorrow’s wines of this young appellation. (Saturday\, May 2 and Sunday\, May 3 at 3 p.m.). \nThe program\nOfficially opening the Festival on Friday\, May 1 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. is the SUBER Aperitivo with live music. Sunset with a view of the Val di Cornia with local glasses\, finger food and notes in the gardens of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium\, which organizes the entire Festival under the patronage of the Municipality of Suvereto. \nOn Saturday\, May 2 and Sunday\, May 3\, SUBER gets into full swing. Its energy spreads along the streets of Suvereto in a widespread festival involving the entire village with stores\, stores\, wine bars and restaurants open until late in the evening. The cobblestone alleys\, palaces and small squares of the medieval urbe host tastings\, workshops\, sports and recreational activities\, talks\, show cooking and performances. Goblet in hand\, visitors are invited to stroll through the streets of Suvereto\, its scents and flavors. To try their hand at the different activities offered to celebrate\, together with the local community\, the Val di Cornia\, where wine\, food\, history\, landscape and innovation permeate economy and society. \nSUBER offers a widespread program that spans the territory. From outdoor activities among the rows – walks\, guided hikes and e-bikes and a wine tourism proposal involving all the wineries – to tasting spaces in the village\, with “Goblets with a View” (at the Consortium headquarters) and the AperiChiostro and Music in Vinyl (Saturday afternoon in the cloisters of San Francesco)\, where Val di Cornia producers tell their stories in person. On Sunday\, winemakers spread out along the village streets with “Chiostro in tour\,” where each winery is joined by a local artisan\, creating a concrete dialogue between wine and territory. Sunday afternoon is all about food. One can taste recipes based on local products cooked live by guest chefs during the show cooking/talk “Mangio quindi sono: la cucina come patrimonio immateriale degli italiani\,” to take home the taste of Suvereto. \nAlongside tastings\, SUBER builds moments of discussion and insight. Talks bring different generations and visions of wine into dialogue\, while guided tastings highlight local appellations and oil. The program is completed with family activities\, workshops and games. A context that\, among vineyards\, sea and Etruscan sites\, makes the festival a privileged access point to the Val di Cornia. \nFor information and full program: suberfestival.co.uk \nFrom SUBER to the sea\, via the Etruscans\nSUBER’s three-day event coincides with the May 1 bridge. It is an opportunity for a trip to a lesser-known area of the Maremma-the Val di Cornia of which Suvereto is the wine capital. To immerse oneself in a microcosm where time seems to have stood still\, while remaining extraordinarily vital. Where the legacy of the Etruscans and the wisdom of the iron masters live again today in the resourcefulness of young Suveretani. \nMoreover\, the Festival lives in an area where everything is close by. Around Suvereto\, the Val di Cornia alternates between vineyards\, Mediterranean scrub and the sea. In just a few kilometers\, one goes from the vineyards to the coves of the Gulf of Baratti\, from the thermal baths of Sassetta or Calidario to the archaeological area of Populonia overlooking the Etruscan Coast\, the “Caribbean of the Tyrrhenian Sea.” \nFor more information and full program: suberfestival.co.uk

SUMMARY:San Marco Argentano - Abbey Wines Calabria
DESCRIPTION:Vini d’Abbazia lands in Calabria: May 2 and 3 at Abbazia della Matina. Two days of tastings\, meetings and wine culture with the historic productions of Italian abbeys and the excellence of the Consorzi di Tutela of Calabria. \n\nAbbey Wines arrives for the first time in Calabria and chooses the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria della Matina in San Marco Argentano (CS) to present\, on Saturday\, May 2 and Sunday\, May 3\, a preview of the national edition that will take place in June in the Borgo di Fossanova\, Priverno (LT). \nAbbey Wines Calabria\nCreated in the wake of the success of the national edition held in Lazio\, the Calabrian leg of Vini d’Abbazia aims to enhance the link between monastic culture and viticulture\, bringing historical production experiences and contemporary territorial identities into dialogue. \nFor two days\, La Matina Abbey will become a meeting place for wine enthusiasts\, wine professionals and producers\, through a tasting itinerary that interweaves spirituality\, history and wine. The protagonists will be labels from Italian abbeys\, flanked by the productions of Calabrian protection consortia\, in a confrontation that crosses territories\, grape varieties and traditions. \nThe program will consist of tasting counters and in-depth moments\, offering the public the opportunity to discover both the historical dimension of monastic viticulture and the contemporary evolution of Calabrian wine. Guided tastings – entrusted to wine professionals – will take participants on a sensory journey dedicated to native grape varieties and their most representative expressions. \nVini d’Abbazia takes the form of a cultural project that restores centrality to the role of abbeys in the preservation of Europe’s wine-growing heritage\, reviving its value today through dialogue with territories. \nAn institutional strategy for the area’s wine renaissance\nThe first Calabrian edition of Vini d’Abbazia (Abbey Wines) is part of a context of strong dynamism for the regional wine sector\, the result of an institutional strategy that focuses firmly on the promotion of its agri-food excellence. \nThe initiative is supported by the Region of Calabria and ARSAC (Azienda Regionale per lo Sviluppo dell’Agricoltura Calabrese\, or Regional Agency for the Development of Calabrian Agriculture)\, as part of a broader plan to strengthen the territory’s role in the panorama of major international wine events. \nIn this direction are strategic choices that have brought landmark events such as Vinitaly and the City and Merano WineFestival to Calabria\, helping to consolidate the region’s image as a high-profile destination. \n“Vini d’Abbazia Calabria is part of a path that has already begun to enhance and promote the regional wine sector\,” says Calabria Region Agriculture Councillor Gianluca Gallo. “The intense activity put in place in recent years is yielding concrete results\, helping to strengthen Calabria’s positioning in the reference circuits of quality wine. In this context\, initiatives such as this one take on a strategic value: they not only promote our productions\, but also tell their deep roots\, interweaving identity\, history and contemporary capacity for innovation. It is through this balance that Calabria can consolidate its attractiveness and establish itself more and more as a major wine tourism destination “. \nThe Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria della Matina\nThe heart of the event will be the Matina Abbey\, a complex of great historical and architectural value nestled in the landscape of inland Calabria. Founded in 1065 by Robert Guiscard\, the abbey represents significant evidence of the monastic presence in the area and its function as a spiritual and agricultural center\, offering\, between the chapter house and millennia-old cloisters\, a solemn and timeless breath. \n“Thanks to the support of the Region of Calabria\, we were able to host in the Abbey of Santa Maria della Matina the first edition in southern Italy of Vini d’Abbazia\,” says Michele Valentoni\, owner of the abbey and La Matina winery. “It is a source of pride for me to have made this place available\, helping to enhance a reality that is still little known but perfectly inserted in a national circuit of great importance.”\n“The initiative represents not only an important promotional opportunity\, but a real opportunity for meeting and shared appreciation\,” adds Judith Sandonato\, organizational soul and communications manager. “An authentic experience that connects culture\, history and wine production even geographically distant.” \nTickets available:\nTickets for Wines of Abbey Calabria are available online\, with the option to purchase admission for individual days: https://vinidabbazia.com/eventi/
