DESCRIPTION:A historic Masseto tasting will kick off the Monza Wine Experience 2026\, the wine festival taking place on November 14 and 15.\nNow in its eighth edition\, the Monza Wine Experience will host the first Masseto vertical tasting open to the public in Italy. The walk-around tasting —a staple of recent editions featuring fifty of Italy’s most prestigious wines— has also been confirmed . \nOn November 14 and 15\, the eighth edition of the Monza Wine Experience will kick off in Monza\, a wine event dedicated to wine enthusiasts\, collectors\, and industry professionals. \nThe event will take place at the Sporting Club in Monza\, where a walk-around tasting will be held on Sunday\, November 15\, featuring approximately 50 of the finest wines from the Italian wine scene presented by the producers\, as well as a historic tasting of Masseto\, the Merlot considered the “Italian Petrus\,” hosted atthe Hotel de la Ville on the afternoon of Saturday\, November 14. \nThe First Masseto Vertical Tasting\nMonza Wine continues to establish itself as one of the most sought-after events on the wine scene\, thanks to its ability to feature some of the rarest and most prized wines from the Italian peninsula\, making them available to the general public. \nIt is against this backdrop that the first Masseto tasting open to the public—ever organized by the Tuscan estate in Italy—takes place. A vertical tasting (that is\, tasting the same wine from different vintages) spanning four decades and featuring six vintages of this great Tuscan Merlot \nWe’ll start with the latest vintage available—the 2023\, which has just been released. The 2020 vintage\, a very well-balanced one. The 2015\, which\, thanks to its power\, stands as one of the cult vintages of the 2000s. The 2005\, which has proven its worth over the long term. Then we’ll return to the legendary 2001\, a true symbol of Masseto’s excellence\, considered—along with the 1985 Sassicaia—one of the benchmarks of Italian winemaking. We’ll conclude with the 1997\, a legendary vintage for Tuscany in the 1990s. \nAll wines will be served from Magnum-sized bottles (1.5 liters) sourced directly from the estate\, underscoring the exceptional nature of the tasting. \nMasseto\nAccording to Winesearcher.com\, Masseto is one of Italy’s most expensive and sought-after wines\, and one of the world’s finest red wines. In 2023\, a Nebuchadnezzar (15 liters) from the 2010 vintage fetched the astronomical sum of 56\,250 euros at a Sotheby’s auction. \n“I am particularly excited to trace the first four decades of Masseto’s history in what I believe is the first vertical tasting ever organized in Italy\, chronicling its evolution and expression over time\,” explains Lamberto Frescobaldi\, President and CEO of the estate. \nJoining him for the tasting will be Marco Balsimelli\, technical director at Masseto and one of the rising stars of European winemaking—a native of Tuscany with extensive experience working alongside Eric Boissenot\, a consultant to Bordeaux’s greatest châteaux. Aldo Fiordelli\, journalist and senior editor at James Suckling\, will host the tasting. \n“This is a one-of-a-kind event featuring one of the top three most highly valued wines among Italy’s great labels\, alongside Conterno’s Barolo Monfortino and Roagna’s Barbaresco Crichet Pajé. However\, it’s not just about the wonderful opportunity to taste these oenological gems\, but also to take part in a historic experience that we believe represents nearly 50 years of Italian wine culture at its very best\,” commented Aldo Fiordelli. \nThe Program\nThe Masseto tasting will be reserved for approximately 30 wine enthusiasts who manage to secure a spot at the event\, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday\, November 14\, in the ballroom of the Hotel de la Ville in Monza. The tasting will be led by a team of professional sommeliers. The glasses used to taste this incredible selection of wines will be the refined Zalto Bordeaux glasses\, from the Austrian glass manufacturer that is now among the most sought-after by wine enthusiasts. The price of the tasting will be 350 euros per person. \nOn Sunday\, November 15\, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.\, “L’Eccellenza in Villa\,” the beating heart of the Monza Wine Experience\, returns to the Sporting Club in Monza. A walk-around tasting featuring approximately 50 of the finest Italian wines\, selected with the help of Aldo Fiordelli. \nThis showcases the finest wines of the Italian Peninsula\, featuring producers such as Biondi-Santi\, Antinori – Guado al Tasso\, Burlotto\, Roagna\, Poggio di Sotto\, San Leonardo\, Bertani\, Ferrari Trento\, Isole e Olena\, Castello di Monsanto\, Tenuta San Filippo\, Castell’in Villa\, Trinoro\, Terlano\, Passo Pisciaro\, Biserno\, and others.
