Benevento – Generosa Barbera
Generosa Barbera: More than 50 producers, two masterclasses and a multi-sensory journey through Barbera Italy
On June 9, 2025, the appointment for enthusiasts, insiders and wine lovers is with “Generosa Barbera,” the wine event celebrating the Barbera grape variety in all its nuances. Hosting the event will be the Monserrato 1973 winery (Contrada La Francesca, Via Monte Serrato 60), starting at 12 noon.
A day to discover the contemporary face of Barbera
Organized by Blend 75 in collaboration with Monserrato 1973, the initiative aims to enhance Barbera, a grape variety symbolic of Piedmont but cultivated in many Italian regions and even overseas. Defined by Carducci as “drinking it we seem to be alone at sea defying a storm,” Barbera has a long history of popularity and endurance, today embellished by new oenological expressions, thanks to careful qualitative research.
As Luigi Salvatore Scala, founder of Blend 75, points out:
“Once a table wine, today Barbera stands out for its elegance and structure. There are more than 32 registered clones of it in Italy: the vine is a mirror of the territory, capable of declining in a thousand nuances.”
Tastings from North to South and guided masterclasses
From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors will be able to travel Italy through an itinerary of tasting tables featuring more than 50 wineries from Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Umbria, Calabria, Sardinia, Veneto and Campania. Each label will be a story in itself, a different interpretation of the grape variety depending on the terroir and winemaking techniques.
Among the highlights are two master classes curated by Alessandro Marra, deputy editor of the Slow Wine guide:
- 11:30 a.m.: “Shades of Barbera,” reserved for accredited journalists and preceded by a tour of the winery;
- 4 p.m.: “Journey to the Terroirs,” for sommeliers, industry professionals and enthusiasts curious to explore Barbera outside historically vocated territories.
Service at the tasting tables will be provided by the AIS Campania – Benevento delegation.
How to participate in Generous Barbera
The entrance fee includes tasting of all the labels featured, food products from the food and wine trail and access to the masterclass “Journey to Terroirs” (subject to availability):
