Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – Sweet and Fortified Wines Session.

September 17, 2025 - September 19, 2025

Sweet and fortified wines shine again in Sicily. From Sept. 16 to 19 in Catania, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles turns the spotlight on the Mediterranean of wine.

Sicily returns to the center of the international wine scene. For four days, Catania will host the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – Sweet and Fortified Wines Session, the largest wine competition in the world, organized by Vinopress and PRC Repubbliche, in collaboration with the Sicilian Region, Department of Agriculture, and IRVO, Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily.

Forty jurors from all over the world will evaluate the enoic universe of sweet, fortified and oxidative wines, expressions of a centuries-old tradition in which Sicily is one of the most important regions in terms of historicity and prospects.

The event will welcome producers, winemakers, journalists and international tasters, transforming the city into a global stage dedicated to wines that are not only production excellence but also cultural expressions of communities. Sweet and fortified wines thus become a symbol of collective identity and cultural consumption that unites memory and future.

The program includes four days of tastings, masterclasses and thematic meetings. Among the most relevant appointments is a roundtable discussion on the path to UNESCO recognition of the wines of the Sun Belt Zone (Marsala, Jerez and Samos). A cultural diplomacy project that aims to recognize the universal value of wine-making traditions that have marked the history of the Mediterranean.

Great space will also be devoted to innovation and sustainability. Focus on climate change, biodiversity and the enhancement of native grape varieties as strategic resources for the future of Mediterranean viticulture. The masterclasses will be conducted by Pietro Russo MW and oenologist Giuseppe Figlioli, in a sensory journey that combines technical knowledge, popularization and culture.

Sicily is the ideal place to turn the spotlight on wines that embody tradition, innovation and cultural identity. Wine here is living culture, the fruit of the communities that have cherished and passed it on. The choice of Catania as the venue for this session is a recognition of the work of winemakers, winemakers and communities that have made sweet and fortified wines Sicily’s identity heritage.
