Vendemmiata Romana 2026: On September 13, the ancient rural ritual comes to life at the Botanical Garden in Rome

The ancient farmers’ harvest festival returns to Rome’s Botanical Garden with a special day featuring games and workshops for adults and children, traditional songs and dances, and the exciting grape harvest at the Vigneto Italia vineyard.

Following the magical evenings of Roma Hortus Vini, which gave the general public the opportunity to witness the magnificence of Vigneto Italia, Luca Maroni and Francesca Romana Maroni return to bring the spacesof Rome’s Botanical Garden to life. Once again, the event showcases the extraordinary ampelographic museum during one of its most important seasonal moments: the grape harvest.

On Sunday, September 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the fifth edition of Vendemmiata Romana will take place. Throughout the day, the Botanical Garden will come alive with the songs, dances, laughter, and colors that traditionally accompany the grape harvest. Adults and children alike can participate in games, creative and educational workshops centered on wine, grapevines, and vineyards, as well as guided tours through the beautiful Trastevere garden.

The highlight of the event will, of course, be the grape harvest scheduled for 12:00 p.m., during which participants will pick grapes with the assistance and guidance of expert winemakers.

The harvested grapes, expertly processedby the Federici Winery, will give rise to the second vintage—the 2026—of a unique wine, Somma Sapienza, produced as both a white and a red wine, which will encompass all the native grape varieties grown within the walls of the Botanical Garden.

As always, there will be plenty of wine tastings and street food samples available in the designated dining areas.

Vendemmiata Romana will once again be a grand folk festival featuring music, songs, and folk ballads, pizzica and salterello (ancient dances from the finest folk tradition of Central Italy), offering the chance to spend a day outdoors—all while staying in Rome—rediscovering an ancient rural ritual and experiencing firsthand the ripe fruits of the bountiful land on the slopes of the Janiculum Hill.
