The Essential Guide to Italian Wine 2027 is now in print. But before you can flip through it, there’s still something to say.
Which wines have won our awards this year? Which wines have earned the Seal award? And what surprises will this edition hold?
Just a few more hours to wait. Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin to find out.
We’ll start with DoctorWine’s Seals
As you know, after tasting, retasting, and evaluating thousands of wines from all over Italy, we have reviewed3,476 wines, produced by 1,347 wineries, and among these we have identified those that, based on their quality, character, and ability to best represent their region, deserve recognition in The Essential Guide 2027.
Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin with the wines that have earned the DoctorWine Seal—our best-known and most instantly recognizable symbol—by region. It will be a journey through the world of Italian wine that will take us over the next two weeks.
But don’t expect to learn everything right away.
We’ll have to wait for the summit
The wines that received 98/100—and thus the Double Seal —and those that made it into the pantheon of 99/100 (we don’t have any 100/100 this year), awarded the Triple Seal, will remain under wraps for a few more weeks. To find out which ones they are, you’ll have to wait until Monday, September 28, when we’ll publish them all at once.
It’s not just about the Seals
But we’re not done with the awards just yet. The Essential Guide presents awards that highlight Italian wine from different perspectives as well.
There are wines that manage to combine quality and value—this year there are as many as 910 —and then there are the other awards we’ve chosen to give to the wines and key figures who stood out in this edition, such as the 3 Stars for producers, the Single-Varietal Wines, and the Special Awards.
We will reveal them gradually, one by one, following a schedule that will lead up to the release of the Guide and the presentations in Milan on October 3, Rome on October 10, and London on October 21.
In short, after many months of tasting, selecting, and evaluating, the time has finally come to show you the results.

- Wednesday, September 23: Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia
- Thursday, September 24: Piedmont and Aosta Valley
- Friday, September 25: Tuscany
- Monday, September 28: Double and Triple Seals
- Tuesday, September 29: The 3-Star Producers
- Wednesday, September 30: Best Quality/Price wines
- Thursday, October 1: The Best Single-Varietal Wines
