The new menu for the Cafè Romano Restaurant, conceived and curated by Daniele Cernilli, was unveiled on the Terrazza Romana at the Hotel d’Inghilterra. Over 90 wines showcase the great winemaking families that have shaped the history of Italian wine, in keeping with the identity of this historic Roman hotel.

The new menu for Aristocratic Wineswas unveiled yesterday, Thursday, September 24, on the Terrazza Romana at the Hotel d’Inghilterra. It was conceived and curated byDaniele Cernilli, director of DoctorWine and the Essential Guide to Italian Wines.

The event, by invitation only, centered on a tasting of a selection of wines featured on the wine list. The presentation highlighted the project’s central theme: telling the story of Italian winemaking through the noble families and dynasties that have linked their names to the history of wine.

Over 90 Italian wines

The menu, available starting today at the Café Romano Restaurant, features over 90 wines from all over Italy. It includes wineries owned by aristocratic families, historic estates, and producers who, generation after generation, have built a distinctive identity.

Among the selected names are Antinori, Frescobaldi, Guerrieri Gonzaga, Incisa della Rocchetta, Marone Cinzano, Tasca d’Almerita, Planeta, Cataldi Madonna, Boncompagni Ludovisi, and Pallavicini. The selection includes Italian sparkling wines (Metodo Classico), whites, rosés, reds, and sweet wines, with a significant number of labels also available by the glass.

“To my knowledge, there are no other similar cards in the international restaurant and hotel industry,” Cernilli explained during the presentation. “It struck me as an original idea, perfectly in tune with the style and history of this splendid Roman hotel and its prestigious restaurant.”

Wine Meets the Hotel’s History

The choice of theme stems from the identity of the Hotel d’Inghilterra, a historic hotel just a short walk from the Spanish Steps and Via Condotti, which has been frequented since the 19th century by European nobles, travelers, artists, and intellectuals. Following the major renovation completed in 2024, the hotel sought to reinterpret its tradition of hospitality through wine as well.

“We believe that a hotel’s identity should shine through in every detail of the experience, including the wine list,” said Elisabetta Fabri, president and CEO of Starhotels. “With Vini Aristocratici, we took the history of the Hotel d’Inghilterra and transformed it into a story to be experienced at the table as well.”

The selection will complement the cuisine of Executive Chef Andrea Sangiuliano, who at Cafè Romano reinterprets traditional Roman flavors with a contemporary twist.

The “Library” of Great Vintages

A specific section of the map is dedicated to the “Libreria”, a collection of particularly representative vintages and wines, conceived as treasures to be cherished and rediscovered over time. Among others, this collection includes the 2023 Sassicaia from the Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta, the 2022 Solaia and 2022 Tignanello from the Marchesi Antinori, and the 2020 San Leonardo from the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga.

The Aristocratici Wine List is available to both guests of the Hotel d’Inghilterra and the general public, at the restaurant and for aperitifs. A project that links the history of Roman hospitality to that of the great families of Italian wine.
