Farewell to Paolo Boffa, the heart and soul of Cascina Amalia

Paolo Boffa, Cascina Amalia lutto

Paolo Boffa was 49 years old and had been running the family winery in Monforte d’Alba since 2007. Originally from Liguria, he had made the Langhe his home, developing a project that combined wine and hospitality. Under his leadership, Amalia Cascina in Langa had grown to focus on the region’s grape varieties and the Barolo vineyards in the Bussia and Le Coste di Monforte sub-regions.

He died at the age of the age of 49 Paolo Boffa, who ran Amalia Cascina in Langa in Monforte d’Alba. He had been hospitalized at the CTO in Turin following a accident at home. His passing has deeply affected the town’s community and the Langhe wine world, where he had built his business and a network of professional and personal relationships.

From Liguria to the Langhe

History of Cascina Amalia began in 2003, when the Boffa family purchased an early 20th-century farmhouse in the Sant’Anna area, along with the surrounding vineyards. The initial plan focused primarily on hospitality: the main building on the property had been converted into a bed-and-breakfast.

The decision to live and invest in the Langhe was soon followed by the decision to produce wine. Paolo’s parents, Gigi and Maria Angela, had expanded the estate with new vineyards, including plots in the Bussia and Le Coste di Monforte appellations, and built a partially underground winery that blends into the landscape. In 2007, Paolo took over management, carrying on the family’s legacy.

The Barolo, along with Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcettohad defined the winery’s production identity, which also included the rare Rossese Bianco. We at DoctorWine have also been following this winery, highlighting its consistent quality and its connection to traditional local grape varieties.

Memories of the Region

In remembering him, the mayor of Monforte d’Alba, Livio Genesio, highlighted his involvement in the life of the town and the deep bond he had forged with the community that had welcomed him.

The Barolo and Great Wines of Langa Route, of which Cascina Amalia was a member, also expressed its condolences. President Nicola Argamante remembered him as “a highly regarded producer who ran his business with professionalism, integrity, and a constant focus on quality,” highlighting his commitment to hospitality and the preservation of the landscape and collaboration among local stakeholders.

The DoctorWine editorial team extends its sympathy to the Boffa family.
