Le Contrade dell’Etna returns in April: the wine festival on the island of the sun to discover the wines of Europe’s highest active volcano and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The wine festival Le Contrade dell’Etna 2025 is an event of international significance, a now in its 16th edition. The appointment for wine enthusiasts, the curious, industry professionals and the press is April 13-14, 2025 in Randazzo (Catania).

How Le Contrade dell’Etna was born.

Over the years, Le Contrade dell’Etna has slowly transformed. Winemakers used to gather in private cellars to taste and compare vintages. Today, after 16 years, everyone is welcome to take part in these tastings of Etna wines that are first and foremost conviviality and sociability. For this opportunity we have to thank Andrea Franchetti, visionary producer and creator of the event. Owner of the Etna winery Passopisciaro and the Tuscan Tenuta di Trinoro, he involved in the early days the first few producers in the ritual of en primeur imported directly from the historic tradition of Bordeaux. The baton, since 2022, has been picked up by the company Crew, which organizes the event and which this year proposes many new features, starting with the location of the event, which moves to Randazzo, inside the Sikania Gardern Village.

Why the wine festival is called Le Contrade dell’Etna

Each Contrada, present on the slopes of the volcano, is characterized by unique and inimitable properties and peculiarities, determined by the different soil compositions. The organoleptic characteristics, the different microclimates and the unprecedented stratified composition of the soil mean that each Etna vineyard acquires its own identity, recognizable with every sip of wine.
