Oltrepò: land of Pinot Noir. Italy’s Blanc de noirs turns 160, among bubbles, territory and visions of the future in the heart of Oltrepò Pavese

Edition 2025 of Oltrepò: land of Pinot Noir.

The fifth edition of the Classese Consortium event aims to be a meeting space for producers, press and industry professionals but with important new features.

On September 21 and 22, Oltrepò Pavese will tell its story through “Oltrepò: Land of Pinot Noir,” in its fifth edition. An event conceived by the Oltrepò Pavese Classese Consortium in order to create an authentic moment of encounter between producers, press, industry professionals and – for the first time – also enthusiasts.

Sunday, Sept. 21 in fact, will be open to all. From 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., wine lovers will be able to access the tasting tables, meet the producers and taste wines from 30 wineries in the area. Tickets can be purchased online at the price of 35 euros (25 euros for AIS, FISAR, ONAV members and students).

The event will be framed by an unprecedented location, the village of Golferenzo, “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy,” an emblem of an area that has decided to bet everything on quality and identity.

The Metodo Classico DOCG, destined to become Classese.

During the two days, the spotlight will be on the Metodo Classico DOCG, destined to become Classese, the symbol of the new appellation and its vision for the future, and the traditional and prized Pinot Noir DOC vinified in red.

Blanc de noirs is indeed the star of the event. In February, the Consortium’s assembly almost unanimously endorsed a decisive step: the new DOCG regulations, which introduce the name Classese and a series of standards geared toward enhancing quality. This is a historic moment, coming in the very year in which we celebrate 160 years since the birth of the Metodo Classico in Oltrepò, with the first bottles sparkling in Rocca de’ Giorgi in 1865.

It is not just a name change, but a vision: to make Oltrepò Pavese the first appellation in the world founded on the Metodo Classico from Pinot Noir grapes vinified in white. An ambitious, forward-looking bet rooted in a long history, but ready to be written anew.
