Two Days Dedicated to Sforzato
On October 31 and November 1, 2026, the Eroico Rosso – Sforzato Wine Festival returns to Tirano, in the heart of Valtellina. This event is dedicated to Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG, the wine that symbolizes Valtellina’s mountain viticulture.
The festival brings wine to the historic center of the city, taking place in the courtyards, cloisters, and gardens of Tirano’s historic buildings. The tasting tour offers the chance to discover the leading producers of Sforzato and to learn more about a wine closely tied to the terraced vineyards of Valtellina.
The Sforzato and “Heroic” Viticulture
The central theme of the event is the relationship between Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG and the region where it is produced. Valtellina’s viticulture, in fact, takes place on steep slopes and terraces supported by thousands of dry-stone walls, in conditions that often make the use of machinery difficult or impossible.
Sforzato is made from Nebbiolo grapes —locally known as Chiavennasca—which are left to dry before vinification. It is precisely this connection between the grape variety, the mountainous territory, and the drying technique that forms one of the central elements of the story told by the festival.
Wine, Territory, and Culture
In addition to wine tastings, Eroico Rosso offers a program that connects wine with the region and local culture. The program includes winery tours, walks through the terraced vineyards, tastings in the vineyard, culinary events, music, art, and performances, with events taking place throughout Tirano’s historic center and the surrounding wine-growing region.
The event thus also offers an opportunity to explore the Valtellina landscape and learn about the work involved in cultivating grapevines on its terraced slopes, through experiences that combine wine tastings with the discovery of the region.
