Müller Thurgau: Mountain Wine—From July 2 to 5, the Val di Cembra will host the 39th edition of the international festival celebrating one of this region’s most iconic wines

From July 2 to 5, the major event dedicated to Müller Thurgau returns, featuring free tastings, technical sessions, and immersive experiences in the region.

The heart of the event will be Palazzo Maffei, an elegant 17th-century building. Visitors will be able to taste dozens of Müller Thurgau wines from various Italian and international wine-producing regions. A team of AIS sommeliers will be on hand to provide information and tasting advice, supported by a group of local young people.

The program for wine enthusiasts will also feature the awards ceremony and tasting of the winning wines from the 23rd International Competition. The tasting panel will take place on Friday, June 19. A team of 18 judges, divided into three tasting panels—each composed of oenologists, journalists, and sommeliers—will evaluate the competing wines. The tastings will be conducted blind according to the Union Internationale des Oenologues method, which involves evaluating the wine’s appearance, aroma, taste, and the interplay between taste and aroma.

There will also be an in-depth masterclass. Sommelier and journalist Giuseppe Carrus will guide guests on a journey through the wines of the Val di Cembra and other Italian wine-growing regions. Guests will discover how extreme terroirs, savory notes, aging, and vertical tasting come together in the glass.

There will also be a focus on mixology with an event dedicated to grappa. Bartender Leonardo Veronesi will guide the audience through the art of mixology with a special workshop where participants can try their hand at creating their own cocktails.

With Heroes, you’ll stroll through the vineyards, with food and wine stops along the way and—new this year—a closing barbecue nestled among the rows of vines. Those who prefer two wheels can opt for “Cantine in Sella”, an e-bike tour with stops at several local wineries to get an up-close look at the work and passion behind every bottle produced on these steep slopes. Among the events is also a comedy show by actress Loredana Cont titled “IRONICAMENTE VINO – Vim bon per tuti.”

At the table, however, the festival plays the surprise card. It’s back “Around the World in 80 Müllers”, an ethnic cuisine cooking demonstration designed to showcase the versatility of this wine. After Japan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, this year it’s Nigeria’s turn, with three recipes presented for tasting by Tracy Eboigbodin, winner of MasterChef Italia 11. And then there’s the dinner on the avenue under the stars, celebrating the union between the Cembra and Fiemme regions. The menu, featuring culinary and wine specialties from the two valleys, is enhanced by a thrilling performance by professional dancers from the Ritmomisto dance school.

Rounding out the event is a rich program of themed activities, organized at local wineries and scheduled from Friday through Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., as well as the culinary offerings from the Donne Rurali, who will delight guests daily with traditional dishes.
