Lazise – Irresistible PIWI 2025

April 27 @ 10:00 - April 28 @ 17:00

Irresistible PIWI 2025, a journey into the future of wine through resistant grape varieties, this is the event to be held on April 27 and 28, 2025, in Lazise, in the charming Dogana Veneta.

Irresistible PIWI 2025 is an event conceived by winemaker Luca De Palma and oenologist and consultant agronomist Igor Bonvento. The event, now in its second year, is the meeting point of innovation, sustainability and passion for wine, all focused on a theme that is rewriting the rules of the industry: PIWI wines.

PIWI Wines are the beating heart of the event, the absolute protagonists of a viticulture that looks to the future. These vines, the result of research and selection, were created to meet the challenges of climate change, reduce the use of pesticides and offer ever higher quality with less ecological impact.

Resistant varieties: an opportunity for sustainable development of viticulture

On April 27 and 28, at Dogana Veneta in Lazise, Verona, experts and producers will meet to explore the possibilities offered by these innovative varieties, whose use in viticulture is growing exponentially due to environmental benefits and the challenges imposed by climate change.
>The focus of the event will be PIWI (Pflanzenschutz im Weinbau) vines, a group of varieties obtained by crossing traditional grape varieties with strains characterized by innate resistance to diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew. Increasingly widespread throughout Europe, these vines are the fruit of centuries of agronomic research, combining empirical and scientific knowledge. Their development meets the need for more sustainable viticulture, reducing the use of phytosanitary treatments and environmental impact.

These varieties, with their innovative genetic profile, represent a possible answer to the sustainability needs of modern wineries, offering new opportunities even where traditional viticulture is challenged by climate change, though without constituting a universal solution.
>Scientifically speaking, PIWI vines are the result of a cross between traditional grape varieties and American or Asian varieties that are more resistant to certain pathogens. The genetics of these varieties are designed to achieve disease resistance without compromising wine quality. In fact, PIWI vines are not only resistant to pathogens, but also produce high quality grapes, often with an interesting flavor and aroma profile, making them competitive with traditional varieties.

Irresistible PIWI 2025 thus aims not only to serve as a showcase for PIWI varieties, but also as a scientific and practical refresher for all industry professionals, with a program featuring lectures, tastings and discussions on the latest findings in sustainable viticulture.

Participating in Irresistible PIWI means experiencing a sensory journey through these resilient wines, which are not only environmentally friendly but also offer a surprising variety of flavors, aromas and characteristics.

Why are PIWI wines Irresistible?
  • Adaptability and resilience: these grape varieties are perfect for coping with climate change. They are able to adapt to different climatic and soil conditions, making wine production more resilient and durable.
  • Sustainability First: PIWI vines are resistant to diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew, which means reduced use of chemical treatments. This makes them an excellent choice for winemakers who want to work in an environmentally friendly way without compromising quality.
  • Taste and very high quality: not only sustainability, but also extraordinary quality. PIWI wines offer a range of unique flavors, the result of the biodiversity that these grape varieties bring.
