Naples – Vesuvius Wine Day 2026

Vesuvio Wine Day 2026 in the city: The authentic taste of Vesuvius, including territory, wine, culture and gastronomy
Vesuvio Wine Day 2026 will be held on May 10 and 11 in Naples, at the Complesso Monumentale San Lorenzo Maggiore (Piazza San Gaetano). Organized by the Consortium for the Protection of Vesuvius Wines, the event was born out of a desire to enhance the territory, history, culture and wines of the Vesuvius area.
Two days of meetings, Masterclasses and gastronomic itineraries, dedicated to the specialized press, trade operators and enthusiasts. More than 120 wines i from Vesuvius will be tasted.
The Vesuvius area
The Vesuvius area represents an area with unique characteristics. It is world famous for its history, scenic beauty and archaeological value. Vine culture has dwelt in these lands since the time of the first Hellenic colonization. It then developed in the Roman period, with the production of some of the most famous wines of antiquity. Vesuvius has preserved its natural vocation for viticulture over the centuries and today stands as one of the most interesting terroirs in the world.
The volcanic soil, consisting of sands, pumice and lapilli, has kept Vesuvius safe from phylloxera, preserving a heritage of centuries-old vines of high historical value. Even today, the vines are planted with free-range vines, using the offshoot method for new plantings to protect the ancient local biotypes.
The indissoluble bond with the territory, has made it possible to preserve the grape varieties historically present in the Vesuvian area. In particular, we find caprettone and piedirosso-as well as catalanesca, coda di volpe, falanghina, greco, sciascinoso and aglianico-which have always constituted the ampelographic base of the area’s wines.
The sunny, Mediterranean climate is mitigated by the altitude, which ensures good temperature fluctuations between day and night temperatures, favoring the development of intense and elegant aromatic profiles. The vineyards are cultivated between 200 and 700 meters above sea level, and the microclimate is also influenced by different exposures and distance from the sea.
Precisely because of these peculiarities, Vesuvius has all the characteristics to impose itself worldwide as anarea of choice for the production of Fine Wines, connoted by a unique terroir, typical grape varieties and a millennial history.
