SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival

May 1 - May 3

SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival: May 1-3 Suvereto, a medieval village in the Val di Cornia, hosts the 3rd edition of the festival.

SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival: Three days of widespread celebration among wineries, producers and artisans. Suvereto winemakers bet on new types of wine and the identity of a territory to be discovered.

The third edition of SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival, May 1-3, 2026, chronicles a metamorphosis. The revision of the disciplinary with the new Suvereto DOCG marks a key step in the construction of more identity wines.

At SUBER we taste, walk, listen and think, together, about the future of the territory, as Daniele Petricci, president of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium, explains. “SUBER was born as a time and place where wine returns to be a common language for those who, in the glass, seek not only quality but also stories, relationships and belonging. The Festival is the result of the vision and commitment of an entire community that has decided to look in the same direction, recognizing itself as a single, pulsating ecosystem. From stores to artisans, from restaurateurs to young winemakers, everyone is doing their part with a proactive and inclusive spirit. We certainly welcome visitors with a glass of our wines, but also with a choral tale of our territory.”

An evolution that not only concerns production, but also redefines the positioning of this area of the Upper Maremma that focuses on wine tourism and the value it can generate. It is on this terrain that the new generations – winemakers, restaurateurs, artisans and local administrators – are called to confront. Outlining a shared path capable of holding together identity, sustainability and competitiveness in a global context.

The masterclass “Suvereto Docg, a new history” is dedicated to this change. 12 guided and comparative tastings to understand how the new production rules are already drawing the profile of tomorrow’s wines of this young appellation. (Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m.).

The program

Officially opening the Festival on Friday, May 1 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. is the SUBER Aperitivo with live music. Sunset with a view of the Val di Cornia with local glasses, finger food and notes in the gardens of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium, which organizes the entire Festival under the patronage of the Municipality of Suvereto.

On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, SUBER gets into full swing. Its energy spreads along the streets of Suvereto in a widespread festival involving the entire village with stores, stores, wine bars and restaurants open until late in the evening. The cobblestone alleys, palaces and small squares of the medieval urbe host tastings, workshops, sports and recreational activities, talks, show cooking and performances. Goblet in hand, visitors are invited to stroll through the streets of Suvereto, its scents and flavors. To try their hand at the different activities offered to celebrate, together with the local community, the Val di Cornia, where wine, food, history, landscape and innovation permeate economy and society.

SUBER offers a widespread program that spans the territory. From outdoor activities among the rows – walks, guided hikes and e-bikes and a wine tourism proposal involving all the wineries – to tasting spaces in the village, with “Goblets with a View” (at the Consortium headquarters) and the AperiChiostro and Music in Vinyl (Saturday afternoon in the cloisters of San Francesco), where Val di Cornia producers tell their stories in person. On Sunday, winemakers spread out along the village streets with “Chiostro in tour,” where each winery is joined by a local artisan, creating a concrete dialogue between wine and territory. Sunday afternoon is all about food. One can taste recipes based on local products cooked live by guest chefs during the show cooking/talk “Mangio quindi sono: la cucina come patrimonio immateriale degli italiani,” to take home the taste of Suvereto.

Alongside tastings, SUBER builds moments of discussion and insight. Talks bring different generations and visions of wine into dialogue, while guided tastings highlight local appellations and oil. The program is completed with family activities, workshops and games. A context that, among vineyards, sea and Etruscan sites, makes the festival a privileged access point to the Val di Cornia.

From SUBER to the sea, via the Etruscans

SUBER’s three-day event coincides with the May 1 bridge. It is an opportunity for a trip to a lesser-known area of the Maremma-the Val di Cornia of which Suvereto is the wine capital. To immerse oneself in a microcosm where time seems to have stood still, while remaining extraordinarily vital. Where the legacy of the Etruscans and the wisdom of the iron masters live again today in the resourcefulness of young Suveretani.

Moreover, the Festival lives in an area where everything is close by. Around Suvereto, the Val di Cornia alternates between vineyards, Mediterranean scrub and the sea. In just a few kilometers, one goes from the vineyards to the coves of the Gulf of Baratti, from the thermal baths of Sassetta or Calidario to the archaeological area of Populonia overlooking the Etruscan Coast, the “Caribbean of the Tyrrhenian Sea.”
