Montespertoli presents the new vineyard map signed Enogea. The map work created by Alessandro Masnaghetti offers a comprehensive snapshot of Montespertoli’s vineyards, highlighting the history, geology and viticultural vocation of the area. The map marks the start of a structured process of enhancement by the Montespertoli Winegrowers Association.
The Montespertoli Winegrowers’ Association unveiled to the trade press and operators the first Enogea vineyard map dedicated to the municipal territory. Created by Alessandro Masnaghetti, an absolute reference in Italian wine cartography, the map was presented at the MuTer – Museum of the Territory of Montespertoli, in the presence of the thirteen member wineries and local institutions.
A comprehensive snapshot of the territory
The project, supported by the Municipality of Montespertoli, represents a turning point in defining territorial identity. The map returns a clear and in-depth image of the municipality in its entirety, highlighting:
- The viticultural complexity and distribution of vineyards;
- The geological structure of the hills;
- The historical and landscape elements that characterize the area.
Masnaghetti stresses that understanding Montespertoli requires a reading that also includes the role of Chianti DOCG and its subzones, which are included in a broader and more articulated territorial framework.
An outstanding vineyard territory
Data from the map work confirm the productive and historical weight of local viticulture:
- Montespertoli is the most densely planted subzone of Chianti DOCG;
- with 2,215 hectares of vineyards, exceeds in total vineyard area all Chianti Classico municipalities;
- the landscape harmoniously integrates grapevine, olive tree and forest, identity elements that contribute to the recognizability of the area;
- Of particular importance are the geosites identified by Masnaghetti, places where the geological complexity of the hills can be closely observed.
The 18 Geographic Units of Montespertoli.
The work was supported by historical sources of great value, including the Catasto Ferdinandeo Leopoldino, which together with local tradition made it possible to define 18 Geographical Units.
A valuable tool for producers, useful to tell more accurately the specificity of their vineyards and different production areas.
A project that looks to the future
“We are proud to see a work we believed in and worked on with great intensity materialized, ” comments Giulio Tinacci, president of the Montespertoli Winegrowers’ Association. Being able to read, see and touch it makes us even more proud to make wine in Montespertoli. This project represents an important step for our young Association, which will continue with determination on its path.”
Also satisfied is the Mayor of Montespertoli, Alessio Mugnaini: “We supported this project from the beginning because we believe in its research and promotional value. Thanks to the expertise put into the field, today we have a complete map of the vineyards, useful for all companies and destined to find space at the Museum of the Territory as well.”
