Wine Cities: more role for municipalities in agribusiness policies

Città del Vino firma la Carta di Pisa ANCI: più ruolo ai Comuni nelle politiche agroalimentari

The National Association of Wine Cities endorses ANCI’s Pisa Charter to strengthen the role of municipalities in agribusiness policies, sustainability, taste museums and agricultural supply chains.

TheNational Association of Wine Cities, which brings together more than 500 Italian wine-producing municipalities, has officially signed the Charter of Pisa, the policy document promoted by ANCI to reinvigorate the role of local autonomies in national agribusiness policies and consolidate dialogue with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The signing took place in Pisa during the dedicated event, in the presence of the association’s president, Angelo Radica, who expressed full appreciation for the initiative: “This is an ambitious and far-sighted work, centered on enhancing the role of municipalities and protecting territorial identities, elements that Wine Cities has always supported.”

The key themes of the Pisa Charter for Wine Cities.

The Association welcomed several points in the document with particular interest, including:

  • Support for Cities of Identity under the Made in Italy Act.
  • Dissemination of Food Policy as a strategic tool for sustainable food management in cities.
  • Greater involvement of municipalities in procedures for installing renewable energy systems.
  • Participation in the census and national network of wine and taste museums.
  • Enhancement of farmers’ markets and short supply chains.
  • Productive reclamation of uncultivated land with a focus on local agricultural development.
  • Technical support to municipalities in the implementation of the Farm File related to agricultural land owned by them.

Toward structured collaboration with ANCI

During the meeting, President Radica defined with the mayor of Pisa and ANCI delegate for agriculture, Michele Conti, and the ANCI head of the Agriculture Area, Claudia Giovannini, a shared path aimed at

  • Strengthen awareness-raising actions on agricultural and food issues,
  • Promote joint activities to support Italian wine communes,
  • To give concrete implementation to the principles contained in the Pisa Charter.
