Chieri – Di Freisa in Freisa

May 10 in downtown Chieri sees the return of Di Freisa in Freisa, the event celebrating one of Piedmont’s iconic grape varieties.

The event

For the 15th Edition of “Di Freida in Freisa,” a full day of celebration with Consortium producers and food, wine, cultural and artistic initiatives. A Gala Dinner under the stars will complete the event.

It will all focus on Saturday, May 10, the long-awaited annual event “Di Freisa in Freisa,” with the aim of paying tribute to Freisa and promoting the territory and its many excellences.

A day full of initiatives, moments of celebration and in-depth analysis, where Freisa di Chieri will be the main protagonist but will also act as an authoritative “fil rouge” to tell the different souls of the territory, from gastronomic and artisanal to cultural and artistic ones, and to raise awareness and increase attention on topical issues, particularly felt even in the agricultural world such as those of environmental and social sustainability.

Walk around tasting

The heart of the event will be, as per tradition, Piazza Cavour, which for the entire day will be transformed into a large open-air stage dedicated to taste but also to music. Here the Consortium’s producers and guest wineries from Piedmont will offer walk-around tasting of Freisa in all its declinations, to let enthusiasts, as well as the merely curious, discover the many worlds and countless facets that distinguish this formidable grape variety.

The Enoteca Regionale dei Vini della Provincia di Torino will also be present, with its own tasting desk, to enrich the tasting itinerary, and will complete the proposal by guiding participants on a true sensory journey through the rich wine scene of the Province of Turin.

Gala Dinner Under the Stars with Chef Vara

Freisa and the Wines of the Turin Hill will then be the protagonists of another highlight, which will ideally complete the event: the Gala Dinner under the Stars in Umberto I Square, right under the arch that is the symbol of the Piedmont town

A convivial moment in an evocative place to raise our glasses and enjoy all together food and wine of the territory thanks to the culinary flair of Chierese Chef Eddy Vara, Head Chef of Italian cuisine at international events, and live a musical tasting experience thanks to the show “Notes of Wine” curated by Francesco Quarna and Maurizio Rossato of Radio DEEJAY.

A special and elegant event to experience and celebrate the area’s food and wine treasures at their best: the wines of the Freisa Consortium of Chieri and Collina Torinese will in fact be paired with Chef Vara’s delicious menu, which will enhance the typical gastronomic specialties of the Chieri-Carmagnolese Food District. A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the Chieri Hospital Pediatrics Department for a project to benefit its young patients.

A special guest speaker

Also the special guest for the 2025 edition of “Di Freisa in Freisa” will be Terry Callaghan, distinguished Professor of Arctic Ecology and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner as Lead author of the IPCC, who together with leading representatives of the Polytechnic and the University of Turin will initiate an important reflection regarding climate change and the repercussions on the social and economic systems of the Planet.

Not only wine but also a varied gastronomic offer with street kitchens that will present typical regional and local specialties, inviting you to discover the best pairings with Freisa.

Music will also be the great protagonist of the entire day: from the evocative churchyard of the Church of SS. Bernardino and Rocco, in fact, a DJSET will animate the event and accompany all the tastings with the harmony of its notes.

And if food and wine will play a central role, equally stimulating will be the cultural and artistic initiatives that will complete the heterogeneous proposal of “Di Freisa in Freisa” 2025: from literary appointments in Piazza Cavour to an engaging tour proposed by the Carreum Potentia Association to delve into the history of the City of 100 Towers and its tradition in textiles in an innovative and dynamic way.

The Italian Red Cross Committee of Chieri will participate in the festival with the “White and Red Night”: starting at 5 p.m., in the historic center of Chieri, it will offer a set of recreational, artistic and educational initiatives for a public of all ages.

Then, in the city center, there is space for the “Art in Freisa” photography exhibition curated by CioCheVale APS and photographer Giancarlo Volpi.

The Textile Museum, open the entire afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m., will organize some interesting workshops for the occasion to stimulate the creativity and inventiveness of participants.

The big celebration will be attended, as per tradition, by city restaurants and eateries that, through the “Freisa on the Plate” initiative, will offer dishes paired with and dedicated to Freisa on the menu.
