Brace e Gusto in Rome

An all-Calabrian restaurant, from the ownership to the raw materials, which in fact come from a family farm in the province of Cosenza. Protagonist is the large grill that is always lit, for spot-on cooking of meat (especially) and vegetables.

In Rome, in a bourgeois neighborhood outside the chaos of downtown, find this new earthy restaurant, of meats and vegetables, run by Calabrians Adriano Cipolla and Maurizio Vaineri. Most of the meats and vegetables you will be offered are also Calabrian: in fact, they come from a family farm a of San Marco Argentano (CS).

As the name suggests, barbecuing is the focus of the restaurant., but the restaurant’s menu, also featuring primi, fritti, bruschette, pizzottelle and desserts, will be able to please the whole family, even the little ones.

The various cuts of meat, including those with different maturation periods, can be found displayed in the beautiful display cases and on the handsome open counter. Do you really have so much choice.

The meats we tried were very good, flavorful, from cooking as we requested. So are barbecued vegetables, cut nice and thick so they don’t get dry. The charcuterie, polenta with red boar ragout, Roman-style puntarelle, and wine donuts were also good.

Good and varied wine list as well although it could be more articulated, to match the level of the venue, but still you will have a good choice. Besides, you know, we at DoctorWine on this aspect are uncontentious!

Very clean venue, for about 70 or so covers, but we didn’t like the non-fabric table linens and napkins ..

Impeccable service, courteous and helpful. For a city like Rome, where so many places are normally closed, finding it open on a Sunday night is certainly a very positive note.
