The president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Andrea Rossi, the only Italian representative for the wine sector on the board of the Global Alliance of Geographical Indications.
Andrea Rossi, president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and a member of Federdoc’s board of directors, joins the board of oriGIn, theGeneva-based International Organization of Geographical Indications, for the two-year period 2026-2027. Rossi will be theonly Italian wine representative on the board, strengthening Italy’s voice in the protection and enhancement of GIs globally.
Andrea Rossi’s comment
Andrea Rossi, thanking the international president of orIGin, Riccardo Deserti, Origin Italia and Federdoc for the crucial support for his candidacy, commented on the nomination as follows. ” Representing the Italian wine sector on the board of oriGIn is a great honor and an important responsibility, especially in this phase, characterized by increasingly incisive European policies on alcohol consumption, complex dynamics in international markets and the emergence of new consumers. It will be essential to face these challenges in a cohesive way at the European level, and only by strengthening the collaboration between our excellences will we be able to protect and promote the heritage of Italian wine and agri-food in the world “.
Also appointed along with Andrea Rossi were Amandine Duthilleul, Director of the Cognac Intellectual Property and Geographical Indications Protection Department; Charles Goemaere, Director General of Comité Champagne; and Vincent Stauffer, Legal Advisor to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry. With this appointment, oriGIn confirms its role as a global alliance for Geographical Indications, representing for the first time all major sectors: wines, spirits, agricultural products and crafts.
Who is Andrea Rossi
Andrea Rossi, born in 1971, is president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano for the third consecutive term. He graduated from the Liceo Classico “A. Poliziano” high school in Montepulciano. He holds a degree in economics and banking from the University of Siena. He has always been at his family’s side in the partner farm of Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano for more than 30 years and leads the cooperative as president, again in his third term. Recently appointed to the presidency of A.VI.TO. the association that brings together the Consorzi di tutela del vino Toscano, Rossi is on the board of Federdoc.
Equalitas
With Equalitas, it has led Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to be the first certified appellation. Recently the Consortium has been touted as a model for occupational safety in the wine sector. Andrea Rossi can boast a long political and administrative experience. In 2009 and 2014 he was elected mayor of the Municipality of Montepulciano, a position he held until 2019. During his term of office, the “Montepulciano System,” a model of shared governance that has been able to enhance the economic and cultural resources of the area, achieving national and international recognition, was born.

The Organization for an International Network of Geographical Indications. OriGIn is a nonprofit Non-Governmental Organization based in Geneva. Founded in 2003, oriGIn is now a global alliance of Geographical Indications (GIs) from a wide variety of sectors. It represents more than 600 producer associations and other GI-related institutions from 40 countries. OriGIn’s goals are to promote the effective protection and legal enforcement of GIs at national, regional and international levels through campaigns aimed at policymakers, the media and the general public, and to promote GIs as a tool for sustainable development for producers and communities.
