Lucanian rosé wines

Vini rosati lucani al mare

Summer is the time of year when rosé wines are most likely to be drunk, although in reality there is no reason not to be pampered by the fragrances and freshness of these types of wines during the rest of the year as well. We propose three that come from Basilicata.

Have you ever thought about Basilicata As a region of rosé wines? The question is rhetorical, because we know that for most Italians the answer is no. Of Basilicata, one knows (and appreciates) the Aglianici del Vulture, one begins to discover white wines, which reveal very interesting possibilities.

But what about rosés? They are made from the region’s princely red grape, the Aglianico, sometimes with small additions of other grapes, according to the style of the producer. The important thing is to limit the contact of the monster with the grape skins to a few hours, to let the color not be too full, but take on those lovely coral pink hues.

They are particularly suitable wines to accompany summer cuisine which is not exclusively fish-based (moreover, many fish are perfect with rosés). Try them with “rosé” dishes according to the principle of the color combinations so dear to our director, which is a very simple system for making excellent pairings. With lobster, salmon, even hams from Parma or San Daniele (to name a few) depending on whether the color is more or less intense. Unleash your imagination to find more and you will not regret it.

Clearly, this concept, which would probably horrify any good sommelier, applies to rosés from all over Italy, but try these Lucanians we suggest and let us know.

Aglianico del Vulture with other indigenous varieties. Stainless steel. Intense rosé. Notes of tart cherries on the nose. In the mouth it is fresh, easy-drinking and immediate, balanced and saline. The name Verha (also White and Red) comes from the Arbereshe-Albanian language typical of parts of southern Italy and means wine.
