At San Leonardo’s, wine also becomes the subject of artistic storytelling. With the project Art at San Leonardo, the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga estate invites an artist each year to engage with the landscape and time of wine. For the 2026 edition, the protagonist is Chiara Camoni. Who has realized the work Spirits (of Earth and Vegetation), from which the San Leonardo 2021 artist label was also created.

The presentation took place in Rome, at Palazzo Taverna, in an evening that intertwined contemporary art and tasting of the new vintage of the estate’s great red. A meeting that highlighted the increasingly close dialogue between the cultural dimension of wine and the artistic one.

San Leonardo 2021, which will debut on international markets in September 2026, was born from a particularly balanced vintage. A cold and rainfall-rich winter ensured good water reserves. Intense light and marked temperature swings in September helped define the aromatic profile of the grapes and the wine’s tannic texture.
The result is a red of great harmony and depth, in the vein of the style that has made the estate’s Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot famous.

Art in San Leonardo

Conceived by Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga and Ilaria Tronchetti Provera and curated by Giovanna Amadasi, Arte a San Leonardo was born in 2022. From a reflection on the affinities between artistic creation and the production of a great wine: both are linked to the cyclical nature of the seasons. The relationship with the material and the unrepeatable uniqueness of each vintage.

Since 2023, the estate has invited an artist each year to experience a residency at San Leonardo, coming into contact with the landscape, the community, and the work in the vineyard and cellar. From this journey comes an original work and anartist label intended for a limited run of the vintage wine.

The first three editions involved Simone Berti (2023), Marzia Migliora (2024) and Linda Fregni Nagler (2025).

Chiara Camoni’s “Spirits”

The fourth edition featured Chiara Camoni, an artist also chosen to represent Italy at the upcoming Venice Biennale.

Project created for the estate is titled “Spiritelli (of Earth and Vegetation)” and is a site-specific work. Consisting of three plant prints on silk and two glazed stoneware sculptures, presences that emerge from the landscape, between vegetation and mineral substrate.

The work was created in the spring of 2025, when the artist worked on the estate together with the local community, weaving together natural materials and memory of the place. The result is a work that restores a symbolic image of San Leonardo: a living landscape made up of relationships between nature, human labor and time.

A limited run

The work also gave rise to the artist label that dresses a limited run of 999 bottles and 99 magnums of San Leonardo 2021, available exclusively on the estate’s website.

A different way of telling the story of wine, through the gaze of contemporary art.
