With this 2025 edition, the pocket guide Wines for Summer by DoctorWine changes its look. A new format, truly pocket-size, new graphics-as always entirely in color-and above all the bottle photo for all the wines presented, so you can get your bearings at first glance.
An entire page is dedicated to each wine, with an organoleptic description along with a presentation of the winery. We have chosen wines whose main characteristic is summer drinkability, so sparkling wines, unaged whites, rosés and a few reds that can be drunk chilled.
Summer calls for lightness, freshness and versatility. Wine is no exception. It’s not just a matter of choosing “whites and rosés,” but of figuring out which labels really know how to enhance the flavors of the season and withstand the heat without losing personality.
The selection by DoctorWine
That’s why we bring you a thoughtful selection of more than 200 Italian wines that work, bottle after bottle. These are white wines suitable for aperitifs, seafood dishes or simply to drink on the terrace with olives and carasau bread. Rosés great with vegetables, buffalo mozzarella, seafood salads. Versatile wines that can be drunk without tiring. A few light reds to pair with richer dishes, from cold pastas to barbecues. Fresh but not mundane. Of course, sparkling wines cannot be missed: no summer is complete without a glass of bubbly.
Simone Mina’s wine cocktails
But this year we have an additional novelty: a small section dedicated to wine-based cocktails, made for us by Roman bartender Simone Mina. Mixology enthusiasts who, however, do not want to deviate too much from the nectar of Bacchus are thus satisfied.
We conclude with some tips for serving wine in summer. Never neglect the right serving temperature. Whites should be drunk between 8 and 10°, bubbles even colder, and rosés just slightly cooler, up to 12°C. Summer reds like the ones you will find in this little guide should be slightly chilled, served around 14 to 16°. Considering that if it is very hot, wines heat up faster, better to serve them with a few degrees less.
Needless to say, never more than in summer should bottles be protected from the sun and high temperatures, even during picnics or lunches on the terrace and in the garden. Finally, favor fresh dishes, salads, fish, vegetables and light cheeses. And not just as a matter of pairing!
The presentation Wines for Summer 2025
The opportunity to preview the new guide will be Saturday, June 21, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., for an aperitif in an exceptional pieds dans l’eau setting: Palmo Mare in Ronchi (MS), on the Levante seafront, directly on the beach.
An exclusive event with free admission by reservation, where it will be possible to taste a selection of wines featured in the guide accompanied by finger food in perfect summer style, in the evocative and relaxed atmosphere of the sea at sunset. Among the tasting counters, about 40 producers from all over Italy, from Alto Adige to Sicily, selected to best represent the lightness and quality that summer requires.
