Tenuta San Leonardo, owned by the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family and located in Trentino, has always grown so-called international grapes following the dictates of viticulture most respectful of terroir.
Vigneti delle Dolomiti San Leonardo is a classic Bordeaux blend, with a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, flanked by Carmenère and Merlot, sourced from vines within the ancient monastery walls. The result is a wine of undoubted finesse and elegance, extremely reliable year after year, from the first vintage in 1982 to the present.
It is made with spontaneous fermentation in small cement tanks, prolonged maceration (12-15 days), frequent pumping-over, and artisanal attention to temperature and oxygen control. It matures at least 24 months in medium-toasted French oak barriques and tonneaux (several passages: first, second and third use), followed by another 24 months in bottle before release.
