The Bolgheri and Bolgheri Sassicaia Consortium take action on the offshore wind project in the Ligurian Sea by writing to the Minister of Environment and Energy Security. Concerns about the connection works and possible impacts on landscape, Cypress Avenue and viticultural continuity.

Letter to Ministry Pichetto Fratin on offshore wind power.

The Consortium for the Protection of Bolgheri DOC and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC Wines sent a letter to Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. At the center, the request for attention in the evaluation of authorization procedures related to new energy infrastructure along the Livorno coast.

The reference is to the floating offshore wind farm project in the Ligurian Sea and, in particular, the connection works to the national power grid that would affect both the coastal strip and inland areas.

Risks to landscape and viticulture of excellence

According to the Consortium, design analyses reveal critical issues related to the possible passage of the power line through areas of high landscape and agricultural value. Among the most sensitive points is indicated the area of the Viale dei Cipressi. An internationally recognized historical and cultural symbol of Bolgheri.

At the same time, the risk of interference with the production system of DOC Bolgheri, whose quality is closely linked to the balance between soil, climate and landscape, is highlighted.

The position of the Consortium

“The Consortium fully agrees with the objectives of the energy transition, but believes it is essential that each intervention be evaluated with extreme care with respect to the specificities of the territories involved” said President Cinzia Merli. £The landscape, the integrity of agricultural soils and the productive identity of the Bolgheri DOC represent a non-replicable heritage, which must be protected through design choices capable of minimizing impacts and safeguarding the most sensitive areas.”

Broader assessments and cumulative approach

The Consortium requests that not only the direct effects of the works. But also the cumulative effects on ecosystems, landscape and agricultural activities be considered in the permitting procedures. Particular attention is paid to the continuity of vineyard lands and the identity elements of the area.

Willingness to confrontation

Finally, reiterated the willingness to collaborate with institutions through technical tables and moments of confrontation. The goal is to identify solutions that will reconcile energy development and the protection of an internationally renowned wine-growing area.
