Cesare Cecchi will be the president of the Tuscan Wine Consortium for a third consecutive term. He was appointed by the Consorzio’s new board of directors, elected by the assembly last May 23. The vice presidents are Ancillotti and Frescobaldi.
“I am honored and also excited by this confirmation to the presidency,” said President Cesare Cecchi, ” I thank the Board for its renewed confidence and for never letting me lack the valuable support of its members to develop this new project together. With Stefano Campatelli – my right-hand man since the beginning of this venture-we have worked on several fronts: first and foremost the recognition of the Consortium by the MIPAAF, which we obtained on August 21, 2023, and on the involvement of producers, which to date has grown by 577.14 percent, proving the interest aroused in the Toscana IGT wine sector and the need to work as a system.”
The comments of Regional President Giani and Councillor Saccardi
“We would like to express our sincere congratulations to Cesare Cecchi on his reappointment as president of the Tuscan Wine Consortium. This is news that we warmly welcome in the region, as it testifies to the continuity of a path of excellence and the trust placed in a capable and far-sighted guide “, President Eugenio Giani and Vice-President and Agriculture Councillor Stefania Saccardi said on the news of the re-election.
“The work done by President Cecchi and the entire Consortium in recent years has been outstanding,” says Vice President Saccardi. as shown by the extraordinary growth in the number of members and the recognition obtained from MIPAAF. These successes not only consolidate the positioning of Toscana IGT wine on the market, but also strengthen the role of our region as the beating heart of quality viticulture. I am particularly proud to see how the wine sector, and the Consortium in particular, is a virtuous example of how to systemize and enhance the territory. Commitment to the protection of the geographical name “Tuscany” and the fight against counterfeiting are fundamental actions that the region wholeheartedly supports “.
“We wish Cesare Cecchi and the renewed Council,” President Giani concludes , “good work for this new three-year term, with the hope that they can continue with the same enthusiasm and determination to promote innovation, sustainability and further enhancement of our wine-growing heritage. The Region of Tuscany is and will always be at their side to achieve new and prestigious goals.”

The birth of the Consorzio Vino Toscana
A small step back. Since 2019, the year in which the assembly of Vino Toscana IGT producers, meeting in Florence, unanimously decided to transform the Ente Tutela Vini di Toscana into the Tuscan Wine Consortium, the consortium has worked tirelessly on producer participation with the goal of giving more and more value to the sector. The members from 70 at the time are now 404 with a growth of 577.14% placing the Vino Toscana IGT denomination in first place for bottling volumes with 36.27% in the Region.
“Looking ahead,” President Cecchi continued. We will continue in the work of involving and including producers with the goal of bringing more and more value on the product, and the Tuscany designation, which recently took place with the modification of the specification, will help in this increase. In addition, we must not forget that increasing the remuneration of a product means helping to create a solid social system that goes hand in hand with taking care of the territory. Since the IGT Toscana denomination is extended throughout the region, this is a value of great importance.”
Future goals
In addition, for President Cesare Cecchi, for the Board and for Director Stefano Campatelli, the priority objective will be to continue to deal with the supervision of the production and marketing of the product not only in Italy but also in countries around the world for effective action against imitations and counterfeits to defend the protection of the geographical name “Tuscany,” both nationally and internationally to increasingly strengthen distinctiveness and territoriality. In this regard, registrations have already been pursued in some countries that do not have agreements with the EU for the protection of DOs and GIs, first and foremost the USA.
“This new three-year term ,” concluded President Cesare Cecchi. I hope it can consolidate what has been done by looking at the future challenges of our sector, which will concern the consolidation of markets, but also a new vision of wine designed to create new opportunities for producers such as the inclusion of the categories “Sparkling Wine” and “Quality Sparkling Wine.” We will also introduce discussion and training formats to be closer to producers and implement information delivery to keep all our members updated on what is happening institutionally in the world of wine.” .
