The journey of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Collio under the banner of sustainability continues in its role as an Associate Operator of the National Quality System of Integrated Production (SQNPI).
Applications are growing from area wineries to obtain SQNPI certification, a symbol of wineries’ concrete responsibility for a more sustainable future.
A path that the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Collio started as early as 2021, becoming an Associate Operator to obtain the SQNPI Mark. The goalofthis important project is to enhance the promotion of wine production under the banner of maximum attention to the territory. With great satisfaction, in recent years, the Consortium has noticed a significant increase in the number of companies that have joined the group of applicant wineries. The numbers speak for themselves.
SQNPI Certification
SQNPI certification in 2021 involved 13 farms, became 28 for an area of about 570 hectares in 2024. These farms, which applied for certification in associated form through the opportunity provided by the Consortium, are added to those that have been doing it in individual form for several years. This brings the total number of SQNPI-certified hec tares in the territory to about 900 hectares and about 200 hectares certified BIO in 2023. For the Consortium, which has always cared about the sustainability of viticultural and oenological practices, SQNPI certification represents official recognition of the modus operandi of its companies. These are concrete steps to protect the environment that lay the foundation for a more sustainable tomorrow. The goal is to obtain certification for the entire territory and deliver into the hands of future generations a Collio capable of still expressing itself at its best.
Collio’s numbers
Collio is a wonderful wine-growing region whose uniqueness and specificity is also confirmed to us by the data. With an area of about 1,300 ha, it produced a total of about 7,300,000 bottles in 2023, a slight increase over 2022 of 0.13% and following a positive trend from year to year since 2019 (+ 9%).
This last 2024 harvest took place at the end of a weather complex agricultural year, which resulted in a decline in production but, with perfectly healthy grapes of excellent quality.
Lavinia Zamaro, Director of the Collio Consortium, speaks.
“We are aware that we are responsible custodians of a production and cultural heritage of rare value,” says Lavinia Zamaro, Director of the Consorzio Collio – and it becomes essential for us to draw the guidelines for viticulture that respects people and nature. We can all work together to safeguard the environment and at the same time find sustainable solutions from a productive and economic-financial point of view. All for our producers, who represent a fundamental, value-creating supply chain for the whole region.”
