The Emilia Romagna Consortium Members’ Meeting confirmed Carlo Piccinini (Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara Winery) as president for a new three-year term. At his side were elected Marco Nannetti (CDA Terre Cevico technical adviser) and Giorgio Chiarli (Tenuta Santa Croce) as vice presidents.
The new course opens with an ambitious agenda that aims to strengthen Pignoletto ‘s positioning through structured, continuous and targeted promotional activities. The goal is to enhance its identity and increase its recognizability among an increasingly wide audience, capable of appreciating its versatility and taste characteristics.
The other goals
Another central objective will be to complete the path for the official recognition of the three sub-areas “Colli di Imola,” “Modena” and “Reno,” already present in the previous Pignoletto DOC but not yet included in the current Emilia-Romagna DOC regulations. This is an important step to enhance the production specificities of the different territories within the production area of the denomination, strengthening the identity of Pignoletto (the only type of Emilia-Romagna DOC allowed today) and ensuring an even more recognizable quality on the national and international markets.
In parallel, the Emilia-Romagna Consortium intends to consolidate its dialogue and collaboration with the producers of Colli Bolognesi, now an integral part of the Consortium, with the aim of building a shared promotional activity that enhances the Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOCG and Colli Bolognesi DOC appellations. This is a natural and strategic evolution, aimed at strengthening the identity of a wine that is a symbol of the territory-grown both on the plains and in the hills-by joining forces under a single vision of growth.
Carlo Piccinini’s statement
“I am happy with the renewed trust and ready to continue the work done so far together with the producers,” explains Carlo Piccinini, president of the Emilia-Romagna Consortium. “Our goal is to continue with the activities undertaken in recent years to make Pignoletto, a wine that represents the essence of our territory, grow more and more. We have the opportunity to make a qualitative leap, both in terms of promotion and recognition, by completing the path towards the recognition of the DOC sub-areas and consolidating the synergy with the producers of the Colli Bolognesi. This is an important project, which not only looks at the protection of our appellations, but also aims to strengthen the identity of an entire region, enhancing the diversity of the territories that stretch from Emilia to Romagna.”
The Emilia-Romagna Consortium
The Consortium, the new name adopted by the Pignoletto Emilia-Romagna Consortium following the recognition of the Emilia-Romagna DOC, was enriched at the beginning of the year by the merger by incorporation of the Colli Bolognesi Wines Consortium. It now represents about 90 producers and more than 2,000 winemakers, with an annual production of nearly 16 million bottles, plus about 1,300,000 bottles of Colli Bolognesi DOC and Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOCG. Pignoletto, a wine that stands out for its freshness and immediacy, is currently the only type allowed by the Emilia-Romagna DOC. Perfect from aperitif to table, it has organoleptic notes that guarantee its recognizability and versatility and best expresses the jovial, convivial and authentic soul of the territory in which it is born.
Congratulations from Daniele Cernilli and the entire DoctorWine editorial staff.
