We have arrived at a new edition of Wines for every pockets, the sixth, and today we celebrate its release with a presentation tasting at the Hotel Principe di Savoia, in Milan.
These little booklets (coming out in a few months. Wines for Summer) are intended to be nimble, practical and manageable publications, which trace a path for those who want to drink well without swooning (precisely Wines for all budgets) and for those seeking advice on which wines to drink in the summer months.
On the one hand, there is the well-established editorial work, which here focuses on a reasoned selection of wines under 18 euros, built through continuous tastings, knowledge of territories and attention even to less traveled appellations. On the other hand, there is a public moment, the one in Milan today, that transforms this selection into concrete, shared, verifiable experience in the glass.
Club Principe from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Today’s tasting booth at the Principe di Savoia is not just a presentation: it is the physical translation of the guide (h. 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – until 5 p.m. admission is reserved for press, associations and trade, then it is open to the public). A thoughtful selection of twenty-eight producers, with nearly 60 labels to taste, an Italy of wine that shows itself unfiltered, with only one real constraint: staying Below an affordable price threshold.
This is precisely the point. At a time in history marked by the generalized rise in prices, wine is in danger of alienating some of its natural audience. Answer is not to simplify, nor to lower the quality bar, but to show that there is still a wide and credible space for a Conscious, territorial and economically sustainable drinking.
The compass for choosing wine at the right price
The Guide Wines for every pocket works in exactly this direction. It does not claim to be exhaustive, but selective. It does not chase the most well-known names, but places them side by side with small, often barely visible realities, which find here a platform for recognition. Similarly, the Milan event not only celebrates the publishing product, but also builds a direct relationship between producers, operators and fans, consolidating a model that over the years has become a reference in the city calendar.
A concrete function emerges. A nimble guide, designed to accompany readers throughout the year in their daily choices. 133 wines are reviewed, a kind of “compass” that orients within an increasingly complex market, indicating that value for money is not a compromise, but an independent critical category.
The result is a coherent project: the book and the event support each other. The paper selects, the tasting desk verifies. Theory becomes practice, and vice versa.
In the end, the message remains simple but not trivial: drinking well is not a matter of price, but of choice. And these choices, now more than ever, need reliable tools and real opportunities to be tested.
