Luciano Lombardi, aka Vignadelmar, went to dinner at Jackie O’, a historic venue of Via Veneto and the Dolce Vita. Since 1972 he has continued undaunted in his path and by no means disappoints in either the cuisine or the wine list.
In Rome, a few steps from the legendary Via Veneto, if you want to enjoy a very good dinner, drink good wine, listen to good music and then maybe even dance in a real small disco, the Jackie O’ may be the place you are looking for.
Although I have lived in Rome for almost ten years, although I have heard so much about it, until a few days ago I had never gone there. You want because of a certain prejudice, you want because this type of multipurpose venues normally shun them like the plague, it took an invitation from a great Maltese friend to fill the gap.
The venue is very successful, elegant, in its dark shades, rightly lit and with well-set tables and also nice glasses to drink good wine from. The cuisine is certainly not avant-garde. If we really wanted to pigeonhole it, it is more from eighties. But still it is a classification that does not do credit to the variety of proposals, its soundness and quality.
The menu as a journey through time
For example. I chose to sample four great classics: an excellent Shrimp Cocktail, served in a Martini glass; wonderful Tagliatelline topped with a very classic ragout. A Filet with green pepper of perfect cooking and succulent pleasantness; to finish, a very classic Crepe Suzette, cooked at the table, by lamplight, by the very talented and helpful maître. Here, if I really had to recommend a definitely very good approach, as soon as you enter the restaurant, look at the large brazier for visible cooking of various cuts of meat: know that it is not for beauty. They know how to use it very well.
Credit for the more than good wine list, curated by the very young sommelier Manuel Pompili, where you can fish out beautiful bottles, offered at reasonable mark-ups. In this regard, know that on wine you do not joke: our Chiara Giannotti, for the Jackie O’ Wine Club, cyclically organizes there beautiful and interesting tastings, paired with dishes specially designed for the occasion.
Jacky O’ for after dinner
But back to our dinner, which, like every evening, was graced by a piano bar pianist which, with volume gradually increasing as the night progresses, will also have you dancing, in an upbeat and fun atmosphere that is never excessive. Those of you who really wanted to enjoy a real disco, they can then move to the one inside the venue, where the volume of music will be rightly adjusted.
All this is Jackie O’, a historic venue on the Via Veneto and the Dolce Vita, which, founded by the parents of the current Owner, since 1972 has continued undaunted on its way!
