At last, L’Ozio Ristorante is back in the limelight with a great protagonist: Dino de Bellis, a reliable chef in the Capital. This is told by Vignadelmar, who is Dino’s admirer and friend.
This review must begin with an exclamation: Dino is back!
Dino de Bellis in Rome is a cook who, in the many years of work he has now accumulated, has made a good name for himself. For the past three to four years he had been somewhat geographically removed: in fact, he had gone to work in the hills surrounding the capital, within a winery.
Now, very recently, it is finally back in town, at the center of a major project to revitalize one of the most important containers of good things we have in Rome: Lo Zio d’America (this was in the Talenti district), which is also a Cafeteria, Pastry Shop, Event Room, Cocktail Bar, Super Market as well as a super-stocked wine shop, where, literally, you can take away every whim.
The part restaurant was no longer what it used to be, and the property decided to completely renovate it, making it a restaurant on the second floor, with fully glazed exterior walls and a large central open kitchen. All the decor is wood and glass, with even simple but elegant table settings. Truly a striking sight, even for customers who basically sit at comfortable tables, all around the kitchen, or even at the counter, where beyond the glass, they will see very close, the kitchen brigade at work. If desired, there is also a private dining room.
At the center of it all is. Dino, with his perfectly executed Roman cuisine, as well as much more, in order to satisfy every need: fried foods, cured meats, cheeses, gourmet bruschetta, soups, salads, legumes, barbecued meats and fish, and hamburgers. To finish, delicious desserts.
Our experience at L’Ozio Ristorante
On our visit, for example, we tried the Supplì, the perfect Carciofo alla Giudìa, the marvelous Baccalà alla trasteverina, onion and gorgonzola soup, the enjoyably good Rigatoni alla matriciana, and the Gnocchi with coda alla vaccinara sauce. To finish, fried Zeppole with cream and the splendid Pear with red wine, crumble and salted caramel.
To drink you can choose from a beautiful list that covers all of Italy, with several offerings also from across the border and also by the glass. With the right mark-ups. There is no shortage of beers and also no shortage of a card for those who would like to dine or end with a cocktail (!).
Also the young dining brigade runs well, making for a very good overall experience.
Here, I have to say, of this return to the center stage I am very pleased. Dino is a very serious person, a caring professional and my friend for about twenty years: during the hardest period of the pandemic, when you couldn’t even leave the house, for my partner’s birthday, he agreed to have a very good menu delivered to our house, made up of many courses, perfectly packaged, complete with cards for regenerating the dishes and even the sachet with weighed salt to salt the pasta water.
