Food Waste Remains High in Italy

Milan is the Italian city that made the greatest impact on reducing food waste in 2025 thanks to the use of Too Good To Go. Rome, Florence, Turin, and Bologna follow closely behind. These findings come from a special map created by the platform, which provides a snapshot of the evolution of the fight against food waste in the country.

The analysis shows that this phenomenon no longer affects only large metropolitan areas but is increasingly affecting small- and medium-sized cities as well. Naples stands out in Southern Italy for its growth in activity, while Cuneo, Varese, and Trento have seen the most significant increases in awareness and participation compared to the previous year.

In 2025, Too Good To Gohelped save 7.8 million meals in Italy, a 13% increase compared to 2024. The national community has surpassed 12 million users, thanks to nearly two million new registrations, while there are over 26,000 active business partners.

Since the app’s launch in our country in 2019, more than 33 million meals have been saved. In economic terms, the company estimates that users have saved a total of more than 310 million euros. While those who use the service regularly can reduce their food expenses by over 800 euros a year.

“The data we’ve collected confirms that the fight against food waste is becoming an increasingly established and widespread practice throughout the country,” says Mirco Cerisola, Country Director for Italy at Too Good To Go. “This growth isn’t limited to major cities; it also includes medium-sized cities, which are making an increasingly significant contribution to reducing food waste.”

Growth that reflects an international trend

The results in Italy are part of the platform’s global expansion. According to the 2025 Impact Report, Too Good To Go saved over 157 million meals worldwide in 2025 alone. Has surpassed 600 million meals saved since the service’s inception, confirming the growing interest among consumers and businesses in models that simultaneously reduce waste, environmental impact, and costs.
