Third International Wine Competition on Vermentino kicks off

The third edition of the International Wine Competition on Vermentino will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia, on May 22, 23 and 24.

Vermentino is one of the best-known and best-known grapes throughout the Mediterranean basin and in Italy as well as abroad, more and more producers are focusing on variety, suffice it to say that in the last fifteen years, among white berry varieties, it has recorded the highest growth trend in terms of area planted with vines in the world, accomplice to its incredible resilience and adaptability to climate change, not to mention its excellent versatility in terms of winemaking.

Registration by May 10

At www.concorsovermentino.com all the information where you can download the necessary forms for participation right away. Applications must be received by May 10, 2024, while there will be time until May 18 to send samples. Several categories are allowed in the competition, from still, sparkling and semi-sparkling wines that fall between PDO, PGI and PGI as long as they have Vermentino on the label and a minimum Vermentino percentage of 85 percent. Organizers expect about 300 champions to participate.

The International Wine Competition on Vermentino is sponsored by the Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Cagliari, the LAORE agency, Coldiretti Sardegna, Consorzio Tutela Vini della Maremma Toscana, Distretto Sardegna Bio and Epulae international academy of food and wine. The Ministry of Food Sovereignty and Forestry of the Italian Republic had approved it for the first edition in 2020 and for the second in 2022.
