Gioia Sannitica – Festival of Ancient Flavors 2026

August 11 @ 20:00 - August 16 @ 23:55

Festival of Ancient Flavors. From August 11 to 16, 2026, the 27th Festival of Ancient Flavors returns to Gioia Sannitica (Caserta), one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the summer in the region.

The event offers an opportunity to rediscover the local culinary tradition, highlighting recipes passed down through the generations, local specialties, and the village’s genuine hospitality.

The event takes place in the heart of the historic center, in Piazza San Giovanni Paolo II, at the foot of the medieval castle, which has been transformed for the occasion into a large space dedicated to food and conviviality. Every evening, starting at 8:00 p.m., the food stands welcome visitors with a rich journey through the flavors of Matesina cuisine, prepared according to traditional recipes and using local ingredients.

Thanks to the variety of culinary offerings and the rich program of performances, the Sagra degli Antichi Sapori once again proves itself in 2026 to be an event that successfully combines tradition, quality, and conviviality, promoting the finest products of the Matese region and keeping the ancient recipes of Campania cuisine alive.

The program

The menu offers a wide selection of traditional specialties. Among the most representative dishes are fresh, handmade pasta—pappardelle, tagliatelle, scialatielli, fusilli, and gnocchi—served with traditional sauces and porcini mushrooms from the Matese. There’s also no shortage of grilled meats, soffritto, tripe, porchetta, abbuoti, skewers, fried pizzas, bruschetta, and stuffed peppers, as well as local cured meats and cheeses. All of this is enhanced by extra virgin olive oil produced in the Gioia-area hills and paired with a selection of local wines and craft beers.

The Festival of Ancient Flavors is not just a culinary event, but also a time for celebration and the promotion of local culture. Each evening features concerts, live music, performances, and entertainment, with a program designed to engage visitors of all ages. The family-friendly atmosphere and the participation of numerous volunteers from the Pro Loco help make the event a must-see for residents and tourists alike who wish to enjoy an authentic experience in the Matesino region.

For the 2026 edition, over 1,000 seats are planned, ensuring a comfortable experience even on the busiest evenings. The event is easily accessible and offers an ideal opportunity to visit the village of Gioia Sannitica and discover its historical and natural attractions.

Useful Information

Participating is easy: admission to the event is free, but food and drinks at the food stands are available for purchase. No reservation is required, and each visitor is free to choose which dishes to sample along the food and wine trail.
