Today, February 13, 2025, Stephen Bonilli would have been 80 years old.
Stefano Bonilli has not been with us since August 3, 2014, and he is certainly greatly missed by those who knew him and those who worked with him at that Gambero Rosso he founded.
It would be really interesting to see how he would interpret all the technological innovations that he couldn’t see.
He was a curious man, open to new things, among the first in our industry to understand the value of the internet in publishing mainly. At this time his approach would have been really interesting and enlightening, like the great visionary he was.

To remember Stefano Bonilli, here are the articles Daniele Cernilli has dedicated to him over the years on DoctorWine:
It has been 10 years since the sudden death of Stefano Bonilli. We publish the letter that Daniele Cernilli wrote in the aftermath of the sad news.
Nine years after his passing, an amusing recollection of our professional life together, when Stefano Bonilli went to the Frankfurt Book Fair.
I am reposting part of a post that Stefano Bonilli wrote in the Yellow Duck on November 26, 2013. Aside from the incredible topicality of the topic that is being brought up again and again today, what one has to wonder is whether it is ever possible that nine years later nothing or almost nothing has changed.
To remember Stephen, eight years after his passing, I publish one of his last pieces by taking it from the Yellow Duck. He wrote and narrated like this, just to make it clear what we have lost.
With this modest proposal of mine, I am addressing all those who have worked with Stefano Bonilli, who owe their professional training to him or who have simply done a part of their work journey with him. What if we set up a day of debates, studies, tastings dedicated to his figure?
Stefano Bonilli left us 7 years ago, and unfortunately one of the most brilliant and innovative figures for the entire Italian food and wine movement is falling into oblivion without much being done.
It has now been six years since Stefano Bonilli left us suddenly and prematurely, leaving a void in Italian food and wine journalism.
Five years after Stefano Bonilli’s passing, it is good that he is not forgotten for his incredible work in popularizing Italian food and wine culture.
Today marks the third anniversary of Stefano Bonilli’s passing. I want to remember him to all our readers, to all those who shared with him that fantastic and unfortunate journey that was Gambero Rosso from 1986 to 2008, and I would like to make an appeal to all those who can do something.
For several days now it has not been possible to consult the Yellow Duck and the Gastronomic Gazette, respectively the blog and web magazine created by Stefano Bonilli. To keep everything on line would only cost a few tens of euros. I therefore make an appeal to all those who have collaborated on the two publications to intervene or let them know how to intervene.
