Trentodoc Riserva Erminia Segalla Pisoni 1852

Pisoni degustazione trentodoc

The Pisoni family is investing more and more in Trentodoc, the classic method better known as the mountain bubbly that has made a creed out of Chardonnay. About 10 years on the lees for the Riserva Erminia Segalla.

The family reserve, dedicated to matriarch Erminia Segalla is the Pisoni family’s most important wine project. Grown in awareness today it reaches up to 10, even more, years on the lees. An expression of elegance and drinkability, the aim of this wine is to amaze with its essence. 100% Chardonnay, ten years on the lees enhanced by extra brut dosage and a wine-only liquer. Purity, essentiality and character are its hallmarks.

Pisoni 1852

Pisoni tasting
Andrea, Elio, Francesco and Giuliano, they are the four owners of the Pisoni 1852 sparkling wine house and distillery. Not only that, they are also the grandchildren of Erminia Segalla, before her grandmother, a woman gifted with balance and common sense, determination and gentleness. Grandmother Erminia was, their words,
valuable and wise adviser, so much so that she became the inspiration for a project that bears the Pisoni 1852 signature and today ranks at the top of the company’s production.

We are in the Valle dei Laghi, in the lower Trentino or upper Lake Garda. Here in a succession of valleys and slopes rise lakes, among them that of Toblino, which help to embellish and enrich the valley in light and brilliance. Here originates the Peler, which in the morning blows southward enlivening the Garda water surface, and in the afternoon channels theHour. The latter breeze is generated south of the lake, travels it for its 50 kilometers and a little more in length, and to the north it accelerates, by Venturi effect, traveling fast and steadily through the entire Valley of the Lakes, to reach the Brenner Pass.

The Valley of the Lakes historically has been the home of the Nosiola, a white grape variety that is the protagonist of Vino Santo Trentino. Over the years it has made room for the Chardonnay, consecrating it as the main grape variety in classic method production.

Classic method and spirits

The company’s production is positioned between two major pillars. On the one hand, the production of classical method, on the other hand the distillery. Production of grappa and spirits is definitely a tradition in this area. Today, grappa is flanked by the many modern and trendy spirit interpretations. Gin, Vermouth and bitters for example. Homage to Lake Toblino is precisely the Gin, with a special bottle varnished to simulate the color gradient of the lake, whose transparent waters take on the color of algae as they go deeper, coloring green. London Dry type, by single distillation flanks juniper berries with a number of local botanicals. Vermouth and Amaro both present the same bitter finish, with a digestive and reassuring sensation.

For the classic method, on the other hand, the versions are different, also changing in price, resting on the lees, and blend. All with remuage by hand, ranging from the cooler, more drinkable versions, with a few unusual labels such as the not-so-common 100% Pinot Blanc, to the reserve for that matter.

10 years of Erminia Segalla

In tasting ten years reserve extra brut Erminia Segalla have been able to tell the story and evolution of this label. Today, more and more toward low dosages in favor of increasing the number of months on the lees. From Chardonnay sourced from three estate plots, we reserve the right to taste the bases to figure out what to allocate to the frothing, and related long rest on the lees, of the future Riserva. A great contribution in complexity and taste-olfactory depth is made by the months, better years, since disgorgement.

Pisoni 1852 today focuses on theessentiality, on a wine of depth that can tell its own story without the need for contribution from dosage or liquer. A wine that can be enjoyed like this, in its sincerity and which tells us the journey of a family in search of its identity, always faithful to the past and the vocation of the land of origin.
