Donato D’Angelo, Vulture producer, has died.

Donato D'Angelo

Less than a day after the news of Cesare Pillon’s passing, we must sadly note another: that of Donato D’Angelo, a wine producer in Vulture.

Donato D’Angelo, one of the most respected names in Lucanian wine, has passed away. With him goes a discreet but participating voice in the rebirth of Aglianico del Vulture, a producer who knew how to hold together the ancient strength of the volcanic earth and the measure of a man deeply tied to his territory.

Originally from Rionero in Vulture, Donato had taken his first steps in the family business, contributing since the 1980s to give Aglianico a modern dimension, recognized far beyond the borders of Basilicata. In 2001 he had founded, together with his wife Filomena Ruppi, theAzienda Agricola Donato D’Angelo, between Barile, Ripacandida and Maschito: twenty hectares of vineyards tended with rigor and passion, where every harvest was a declaration of love for the land of Vulture. Behind each bottle was his philosophy: respect for nature, time as an ingredient, silence as a language.

A reserved but beloved figure in winemaking circles, Donato D’Angelo leaves a legacy-along with his wines-a lesson in consistency and measure. His wife Filomena Ruppi and daughters Emiliana, an enologist, and Erminia Alessandra, an economics graduate and WSET certified, pick up the baton by carrying on the winery.

The editorial staff of DoctorWine extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family on this sad day.
